You can run up to 4 Graphics cards using SLI. There are a 2-Way SLI, 3-Way SLI and a 4-Way SLI present and you can choose any one of these depend on the need.

The technology has changed a lot, and now we have a professional grade SLI for 3D rendering, multi-way SLI that support three or even four graphics processors and various other modes.
SLI only works with graphics card that have the same graphics processor and with the same amount of onboard memory. If you have cards of different manufacturers, but their RAM is the same, i.e., 3GB, they will still work fine.
But in case you are going to connect two graphics cards having different RAM, i.e., 2GB graphics card and a 3GB graphics card, it would not work. Beyond choosing the right card, setting up SLI is pretty easy.
You will need an SLI ready operating system and SLI certified motherboard with PCI slots, SLI Bridge, and a power supply that can provide enough power for as many cards as you are running.
