MMORPG is one of the most nostalgic genres of gaming. Thousands of players on the map fighting against enemies for claiming the victory in the ever-changing world is extremely exciting and filled with adventure. As of today, MMORPGs seem to be plagued with pay-to-win practices along with lower quality of the game. Ashes of Creation is the next big MMORPG title that’s banking on the nostalgia of MMORPG while being free of the pay-to-win practices.
Besides the noble aspects, Ashes of Creation is quite different than any other MMORPGs. With a massive, fully explorable world filled with innovative features, characters, and classes, you’ll find yourself in the middle of a troubled world that’s afflicted by dark forces.
There are lots of rumors and speculations circulating this game. Things are yet pretty blurry. The game is still under heavy development. However, there are some pretty interesting things already out. Let’s get right into all the information we have at hand on Ashes of Creation.
As of now, Ashes of Creation doesn’t have an official release date. However, it’s supposed to be released before 2020. Without no concrete release date, this leaves a huge opening for speculations. Fortunately, we’re already being entertained by aspiring Alpha and public Beta stage of the game. The starting already happened with the release of Ashes of Creation: Apocalypse.
Ashes of Creation: Apocalypse is a great showcase of what to expect from the full-fledged game. Just like any other battle royale games, Ashes of Creation: Apocalypse features a unique way of fighting while keeping the full craze of the genre. It features all the aspects of a full-fledged battle royale game. Interestingly, this battle royale game proves to be a worthy move; pushing the original game into Early Access and public test in one fell swoop. Intrepid Studios did a wonderful job at that.
Battle royale is a very popular genre these days and Ashes of Creation: Apocalypse is a pretty good way of introducing the community with its world. Despite being a battle royale game, it’s an important part of the Ashes of Creation ecosystem. You can have an exclusive look at what the original game is going to offer. The best part is, all the progress you make on the battle royale will be carried over to the final MMORPG release. If you haven’t checked out the game, dive into Ashes of Creation: Apocalypse right now! This game started at Alpha stage back in September 2018. Only recently it went into public Beta (December 2018). Currently, there’s only one game mode you can enjoy whereas 3 total game modes will be available.
Right now, the only mode available for playing is the 100 player deathmatch. The next available mode will be Castle Siege (100 vs 100). Lastly, the Horde mode (50 vs NPC enemies). The Horde mode is interesting as you along with your team have to fight against waves of monsters as well as NPC enemies from the opposing team.
Trailers play a huge role in shaping the experience of a game. Intrepid Studios has been pretty generous to show off some of the coolest parts of the final game. All these trailers showcase the “under development” gameplay from the game.
At first, here’s the Kickstarter video that explains what Ashes of Creation is. The game structure targets to involve more with the players. This trailer explains how it’s going to be achieved through various mechanics.
Next up, the in-game gameplay. This trailer showcases the predator class – a stealthy assassin infiltrating a city for stealing a relic and triggering a full-blown attack on the city.
How about taking a look at the climates and environment of Ashes of Creation?
Everything looks great but how about all the actions? Don’t worry; Ashes of Creation will definitely won’t disappoint you. The actions are fast-paced and highly focused on the usage of various magic spells.
Gameplay and story
As the Intrepid Studios devs explained in the first video, it’s a game that features an open-to-explore, high fantasy world where different factions interact with each other in an MMORPG manner. The core feature of the game is dynamism. Everything you do will lead to the evolution of your world. Every single part of the game can be either destroyed or created. The world will act just like the real world. The worlds will have their own seasons, natural calamities and others. The way you response to these will impact the physical and narrative result of your story.
When you first arrive at the landscape, there’ll be nothing but unbroken wilderness. Devoid of human touch, your goal is to develop a suitable civilization. The devs are eager to offer a unique experience for every player within the game. The game would react to the player and evolve as the player progresses.
The way things will work is, as a player, you gather experience, collect resources, craft, fight, process and so on. Your node (circle of influence) will be an attractive place for more and more “civilizations”. Ultimately, there will be larger buildings, NPCs, and settlements. With all the infrastructure, the node will eventually become a larger metropolis. However, different features like the tasks, quests, and events etc. all are going to be unique to each node. The bigger the community grows, the more quests will be available to complete; the more events and prizes to collect. It’s also possible to tweak a node to a specific trait, for example, farming, smithing, livestock rearing, and others.
Each of the nodes enjoys their uniqueness in every aspect: climate, ecology, ventures, politics and even resources. That puts big importance to the trading. Without a proper trading system, nodes won’t survive and flourish in the wilderness. However, the trading routes must be kept secure from opportunistic players.
There are 4 species with 2 subtypes for each. Here’s the short list of the races.
- KAIVEK ORCS
- DUNZENKELL DWARVES
- PYRIAN ELVES
- AELA HUMANS
After the race, it’s time to choose one of the eight classes. Each offers unique characteristics and abilities. Pick the one that suits your playing style.
News and Rumors
In August 2018, My.com published an announcement that it would take over the publishing of Ashes of Creation in some regions (CIS and EU). This announcement stroke like lightning in the heart of the MMORPG fans. My.com and thus, outside influences could inflict the original motivation and vision of the game. However, Intrepid was quick to respond to the situation and cleared that My.com was only going to take over the publication of the game, not the development process. There would be no outside impact that the community feared.
If you didn’t know, Ashes of Creation is a crowdfunded project, to begin with. In fact, it’s one of the most successful ones. Within less than a month (May 2017 to June 2017), it gathered more than 30 million USD from about 20,000+ backers. As an MMORPG, this crowns Ashes of Creation as the most successful crowdfunded project.
If you’re an MMORPG fan, then Ashes of Creation should get you hyped. It’s safe to bet that this new title is going to shake the MMORPG genre a lot. However, how much Intrepid Studios can make their dreams come true is still to be seen in reality. If they can pull it off, I bet even World of Warcraft is going to be dethroned from the MMO king.
